The cable from your old iPhone 6 will work for the iPhone 12, as they both use a Lightning connection.

It worked!
I just left it connected without doing anything else—no new adapter, etc.
Thank you!

No.
Use the USB-C cable that is included in the box.
I faced the same warning issue a couple months ago when I needed to restore my iPhone. I was not able to access the phone until I updated iTunes. I am also using Mojave on my computer.
Thanks for the quick response. However, when I use my older cable from the iMac's USB 3.1 port to the iPhone 12, it says a software update is required. I am running Mojave and I won't update to Big Sur as it suggests. What do you think?

I am using that in another room to charge overnight. I was wondering if I could use my older cable with soe kind of adapter with my computer. The previous answer said I could. Are you saying I can't? Confused
Yes, that simply indicates that iTunes on your computer needs a small update to allow syncing to the new phone.
Oh. That would mean until I upgrade (whenever) to Big Sur that's when I can do it :-(
I currently have the most recent Mojave 10.4.16. Catalina will not handle some of my 32 bit apps.
