Not sure why you don't want both Apple products delivered through the Microsoft Store, but from Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support you should find:
* On Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can download iCloud for Windows on Apple's website.
As far as I know that link should still work on Windows 10.

Apple Software Update is included as part of the standalone iTunes(64)Setup.exe installer. If you install iTunes from the Microsoft Store it isn't requires as that will manage automatic updates. What version of iTunes or other Apple software are you trying to update, on what version of Windows?

The Apple Software Update is not ( thanks for the correction—yes... it is “not”) downloaded—- though Itunes is downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
The “ blue button” that shows up in the taskbar if the Apple Software Update is downloaded is missing.
Reinstall iCloud. It will reinstall Apple Software Update, unless you install that from the Microsoft Store too, in which case it won't be needed because the Microsoft Store handles the updates again.

Thanks for your reply.
I have Windows 10.
I installed ITunes .... but the Apple Software Update is included.
I do not get that blue button at all.

What blue button?

If iTunes is installed from the Microsoft Store then you don't need Apple Software Update in your Start Menu. It is only needed if you're running the other version of iTunes.

The problem is then how do I get the latest updates of ICloud?
On my other computer, notifications for ICloud updates are via Apple Software Update.
Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks again.
I tried reinstalling ICloud—- but all google searches seem to only bring up the installation via the Microsoft Store.
Can suggest how I could install it bypassing the Microsoft Store?
Thanks again
You have been really very helpful.
Cannot thank you enough.
Thanks so much for being so caring.
Awesome!!!
