I’ve forgotten passcode on old phone. Need to retrieve pictures and text from old phone without erasing them . Help?

If you cannot remember it, the one, and the only mechanism to reset a screen lock passcode is to restore the device, erasing it in the process. That is a deliberate design aspect of iOS in order to ensure that no one, nobody at all, can gain access to an iOS device without knowing the screen lock passcode. All anyone without the passcode can do is erase the device to gain access to it without the data.

As long as owners keep up to date backups, they could then restore their data to the device after resetting it. But without an iCloud or iTunes backup, data loss is inevitable.
