Hi,
Also, unless the operating system already suggests a suitable driver when trying to add a printer, you may want to check whether the recently (Dec 11, 2020) updated HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS package download from Apple at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US would work. To begin with, reset the printing system. Verify that your LaserJet 1300 is recognised. Is there an appropriate driver to use (perhaps something like an HP LaserJet 1300 Series 19.13, or another similar HP laser printer)? Look upon this as an experiment. It may not work. There is always a certain risk involved with an experiment. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. Data may be lost. A hardware problem is unlikely, but it is impossible to guarantee anything. Make sure that you have multiple backup copies of important files before you start.

Hi BrianAshbury,
HP does not provide drivers for this printer for use with a Mac, as this is an old printer.
You can try connecting the printer with a USB Cable to your iMac, then go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > "+" button > click your printer, and see if it gives you the option to use a "Generic" Driver.
Let us know!
Cheers,
Jack
The free open-source Gutenprint print driver is available. We haven't had confirmation that it will work with Big Sur but is worth a try. Let us know if you're successful or not.
Thank you Old Toad, The free open-source Gutenprint fixed my problem! Although my printer is no longer supported by HP or Apple, I'm able to print now.
