I have never been able to get my HP printer/scanner to work wirelessly c'est la vie.

Works great with a cable connection

This means that you should be able to use the printer under macOS 10.15 Catalina without having to install additional drivers, provided that the printer and the computer both are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

If necessary, you could try the following procedure:

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the MacBook Pro, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the MacBook Pro. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.
