magsafe 2 charger overheated and shrunk?

I don’t know what happened besides working on my MacBook while it was charging, and then I heard a crackle from the charger. When I then looked at the charger it had somewhat “shrunk” and smelled awfully burnt.

i just wanted to know if this was actually possible? Considering I’ve read that the charger should automatically turn off when it gets overheated. (New - bought off someone else)

Heat damage to high temp plastic is very evident there.

As suggested, get replacement(s) ~ avoid using that one.

If in US/CA market area of OWC markets for authorized Apple

MagSafe, check their prices for lower costs; and other options.

See examples of both Apple MagSafe2 and MacSafe1 adapters, new @ OWC.

Higher-output adapters will automatically reduce power to meet demand.

See Apple Power Adapter 'Extension Cable' (only extension - for adapter)

Good luck & happy computing!
