M1 MacBook Air - Drag and Drop

Is anyone having Drag and Drop problems on the new M1 MacBook Air? When trying to drag, Finder Freezes and the spinning ball appears and stays there for quite a while.

Hi leanne,

Thanks for the response. I thought I' replied earlier but my reply is not showing up.

  1. Happens all the time
  2. Not error messages, SWOD simply appears and then goes away after a while. In some Apps Force Quit is required to get rid of SWOD.
  3. Yes, following all the right procedure, happens with both mouse and trackpad.
  4. No other problems other than Apps which are running Intel code taking a while to start up - probably emulation software doing its thing. Tried all the standard fixes for slow Macs, Disk Repair, relaunch finder, etc

Made some progress with Apple Tech support via Chat. Seems the hardware is OK and the problem only exists with one user. We used Migration Assistant to transfer info from an old Dell Laptop after we set up the user and the suspicion is that Migration Assistant.

Set up a new user and everything works fine for that user, so the problem is likely the result of something going wrong with migration assistant.

I think the best option is to manually transfer files, pictures, mail folders and contacts via a hard drive rather than relying on Migration Assistant to do the job.

Any comment or advice would be appreciated.

Best regards

Bill

Hello BaristaBill,

It sounds like your MacBook Air is running slowly or becoming unresponsive when you try to drag and drop, and we want to help.

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

  1. Does this happen when trying to move specific content or items, or does it happen every time you attempt to drag and drop items?
  2. Do you ever see an error message when this issue occurs? If so, what does the error say?
  3. Are you using these steps to drag and drop content? Drag and drop items on Mac
  4. Does your Mac run slowly or stop responding when attempting to complete other tasks as well, or only when dragging and dropping items? This page can help if your Mac is running slowly: If your Mac runs slowly

Thanks!
