iPhone won’t send text messages to non iPhone users

What can I do to be able to send texts to non iPhone users? Would it have anything to do with my payment method with iCloud not going through??

Well what changed is my daughter has been on phone more lately and I’m scared she may have messed with some setting I can’t send SMS messages but I can receive them. Should I have IMessage on and sms ? Ugh I’m not tech savvy at all and I’ve always been on team android or Samsung this XR has been challenging for me to navigate. But I did try what you said it did not work I reset network I called carrier also they suggested going to store either carrier or an Apple store but idky it just randomly stopped. I did get to reply to someone randomly twice but it was directly after I received the text like I was in message and person text hey and I replied right after and it went through but I was already in that specific person message board like I didn’t have to click on the name and open the text I was on text screen with that person already. I said hey back and it went through then I went to send another one directly after it was not delivered and red notification not delivered popped up. I probably make no sense either lol sorry your sweet for replying thank Alex

It appears that you are unable to send SMS text messages from your iPhone XR. Did it ever work in the past? If YES then what been changed since? The ability to send or not send SMS text messages has nothing to do with your payment method not working.

(1) Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF). 


(2)  If the above does not work then - I recommend that you contact your carrier and making sure that their end is setup and working fine so that your iPhone can send the SMS Text Messages.

Two more recommendations-

  1. Open Settings ➔ General ➔ Shut Down : Located all the way down. After shutting the phone down then restart it. See if this helps after the phone gets back on the network.
  2. If the above does not work the I recommend that you take the advice of your carrier and visit their store. They should be able to determine the cause if it is a carrier service issue.
