Update from Yosemite to High Sierra

Im on the apple website downloaded the High Sierra download but when I try to open it I get a can't open file error.

Im currently running Yosemite

Can anyone help I was told I should update this

Did you download macOS High Sierra 10.13 as recommended in this Apple Support article. Follow the instructions. How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

Do you have any antivirus software installed on your Mac?

Check your Applications folder and make sure there are no macOS installer apps there.

What is the year and model identifier of your Mac? Find identifier in About this Mac / System report (or system information) / Hardware overview.

You might also try reinstalling your original software from Recovery mode and upgrading from there.
