Horizontal grey/black lines across screen -- MacBook Pro 13-inch (2017)

Hi,

About a month ago grey horizontal lines appeared at the top of my screen (MacBook Pro 13-inch 2017). Over the last month this has got progressively worse to the point where the screen completely seizes up and is impossible to use, if I use the machine for too long. If I shut the lid and let it sleep for a few minutes, the problem completely goes away but always returns. I have seen elsewhere that this is due to an overheating problem -- my MacBook has not left my desk for 3 months now since I am a university student working from home, so I know it's not been dropped or left on soft furnishings.

I've seen other people post about the grey lines, but I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this 'ghosting' effect which happens? Like programs that I've been using leave an imprint on the screen.

I'm really not sure what to do, I've been quoted over £400 for a display replacement but I've seen so many other people with this same issue that I really don't think Apple should be asking for their customers to pay to fix this. Also if it's an overheating issue I'm sure the same problem will happen again eventually. Has anyone managed to get this problem repaired for free under Consumer Law?

Thanks.
