GMT watch face - current location setting?

First off, I understand the GMT watch concept vs. what Apple has created with this watch face. I’ve read through 7 pages of the New GMT face post.

When selecting the time zone for the city I live nearest to (Baltimore, EST), the red portion of the “GMT” bezel is daylight and the blue part is night with the transition between the two correlating to sun rise/set. That makes sense (and I get it is not a standard GMT setup).

However, when I set the time zone to the “current location” option, I cannot figure out what the red/blue “GMT” bezel is supposed to signify. The length of the red portion and blue portions seem to be the same as when I select Baltimore, but they do not seem to correspond to anything.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Kirk McElhearn similarly noted this issue on page 6 of the other thread I found. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251798619

Hello CHNR,

It sounds as though you're asking what the two-tone colors mean on the GMT Watch Face. Those colors reflect day and night. You will see the bars move to different times for each color to represent sunrise and sunset as well. This is why upon changing the time zone or region you see the bars move.

From the photos you provided this does show to be working properly on your Apple Watch. More information about the GMT face can be found in the following article.
