I have a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro that appears suddenly to have dead usb ports. I have tried resetting SMC and NVRAM with no change. My question is shouldn't the "About this Mac" system report be showing an error under the usb tab information if it is truly dead?

Not even an USB stick is being recognized by the MacBook Pro? Can you charge an iOS device?
I'm afraid, only a diagnose, done by one of the Authorized Apple Service Providers, might find the reason for that:
Hi Ingo, learned something new, wasn't aware of that option! The report result was there were no hardware issues. Both ports failed at the same time. I tried several usb devices with no success... any suggestions would be appreciated. Don't want to replace the logic board if not needed. Thanks!
Nope, tried that, usb mouse and exteral drive with no success. Thanks I may need to take it in to see what the problem is...
