MacBook Pro 16 inches keep shutting down without a reason

Hello,

I have been experiencing 2 strange behaviors from my computer, bought on 7th Octobre 2020.

To be honest, i was always a proud Mac owner, have been a faithful user for over 20 years, ranging from powerbooks, notes, macbook pro and mac pro .. but i have never been disappointed like i am today, having to experience this issue with a decent maxed up Macbookpro.

Thank you in advance for your help.

issue 1 : Started 3 weeks after the purchase

Consecutive Sleep Wake Failures that happen after putting down the lid for a long period of time ( a whole weekend), after some research on the internet those are the actions i performed :

  • Resetting the SMC
  • Resetting the NVRAM
  • Updating to Bigsur
  • Disactived powernap

The issue seemed to have been resolved for a couple of weeks. Then 2 weeks ago am experiencing the same issue again, but this time with a bonus ( Sadly ) which brings me to the second issue

Issue 2 : Started 2 weeks ago

On top of the the Sleep Wake Failure, the laptop shuts down randomly after putting it on, sometimes 1 min after, sometimes after 25 mins of normal use, actions performed :

  • Resetting SMC
  • Resetting NVRAM
  • Diskutility - no problems with the disks

hello,

reporting back, as i managed to get the mac to stop randomly restarting by clean installing the lastest Big sur update using a bootable USb drive.

The Original problem still persists, and getting crash messages “sleep wake failure in EFI” but this time only for putting the mac to sleep for

less than 1 hour.

As i have done everything in my power, i went to the Apple authorized center to take the Mac in, explained the wierd behaviors to the technician and showed him the log errors.. surprisingly he said that the Mac booting up after a one night sleep is something normal

unless, the error message appears... that’s new to me, as 2 of my macs are up for at least 2 months...

the surface tests returned no errors, so they are keeping it for 48h for further investigations.

i will keep this thread updated, it might help some running through the same problem!

Verify you have test with no peripherals plugged in

Verify you have Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN

You have done your due diligence— I would not hesitate to take it in.

You can try the Diagnostic: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

Not as definitive as Apple's back bench AST (Apple Service Toolkit) diagnostic is certainly more comprehensive than anything we can sort out here, but may kick an error code.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

I was able to perform the Diagnostic, everything seemed fine, returning a code : ADP000

I tried to contact the support, the only solution they are step they are offering is a clean reinstall of the OS,

Seems reasonable way forward to reinstall the macOS for an anomaly like yours, from

I will add— the update for Big Sur macOS 11.2 is eminently due anyday now— I would suggest waiting for this update, and see if it changes your experience...

Well i have just updated to Big sur 11.2, yesterday, for like 3 hours i thought the problem was solved, no crashes and the computer wakes up normaly from a 1 hours - 2 hours sleep ...
To my surprise, this morning as i was ready to kick off. my work routine, i found the mac off, won't turn on, after multiple SMC resetting and NVRAM reseting, it did boot up, got to the finder, to find a sleep was error message, i literally did nothing, no application open .. it just shut down by it self after 3 -5 minutes.

You have been given all the resources/links above to proceed. There is nothing more to add here.

You have a 1-year warranty for hardware issue, if you have AppleCare+ this extends the warranty for an additional 2-yrs. AppleCare+ https://www.apple.com/support/products/mac.html

Unfortunately we don't have a Apple store where i live, making it difficult to get a free over the counter check

And from what i see a lot of people over the internet are having the same issue, but seems to not find a final solution

Am starting to get very nervous as it's literally missing around with my work and am seriously not going to buy an apple product anymore !

I think that the last resort is that i will try to wipe clean the HD and make a install from scratch to see if it's just a software issue !

i hot this log, and i was wondering, might be something off with the battery or the power distrubution ?
