ProtonVPN for Mac

Hi All,

For a general internet browsing I wish to use a VPN to stay anonymous. ProtonVPN offers a free VPN connection with limited servers, but for me would do for a time being. ProtonVPN is not available for Mac's from the Apple store, only for iPads, iPhones. Could you advise me:

  1. Do you have an experience in using ProtonVPN on your Mac machine? If so, could you let me know?
  2. Proton offers VPN download to a Mac (I have a MBP 2020) from their site. As the download does not go via Apple Store, I am a bit suspicious to downloaded in this via their site. Any thoughts on this?

Maybe not as "anonymous" as you thought—

A true VPN tunnel, for example between you & your job, or a Bank server would be of value, otherwise might be time to re-think the usage.

I would be highly suspect of downloading adware/malware from third party—

Sites like this/and aggregator sites make their money slipping in PUP.

If you are using a VPN to connect to your company or instition's private network ask the Network Admin what VPN client you should use. If you are just using a public vpn you are fooling yourself about security. At some point the public vpn provider must route your information to the Internet just as you would have done if not using the public vpn. In addition you have provided all your information to the public vpn provider who can, and will, do whatever they want with your data.
