macbook air video issues

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015)

I've just upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 now when I stream video, the display splits and slants after about 5 seconds. Audio is not affected. If I keep my finger moving on the trackpad, the display is fine but as soon as I stop, it splits and slants. Any suggestions?

Hi again,

Thanks for trying. Are you using your built in Mac screen, or are you using an external display? Are you using scaled resolution or the default for your display? You can check in Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays. Try switching resolutions and if using an external display, try using the built in display. If it still happens, reach out to Apple directly for help here: Get Support.

Hi there,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are having an issue streaming video on your Mac. Does the same thing happen with downloaded videos or on other streaming services or apps? Does this issue continue if you restart your Mac? Does it make a difference if you connect to a different Wi-Fi network?

These articles might help:

Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV

If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi

We look forward to hearing back from you!

Thank you Joseph for your reply. I have determined that the problem is when I stream full screen from various TV websites. The four I use are CBC and Knowledge Network (Canada) and NPO and RTL (Netherlands) and it happens with all of them. I never download anything to watch later so can't answer to that. I have checked youtube and determined that it doesn't happen there, even in full screen.

Restarting my Mac does not solve the issue and I'm not able to connect to any other wifi as I'm in Egypt and only have the wifi access available to the whole building.

One thing I've realized me is that when I take the pointer all the way to the top and the menu bar drops down, if I leave the pointer there, the screen image remains stable. As soon as I move the pointer elsewhere, the image splits and slants again. This issue is new since I upgraded to Big Sur. Is there perhaps simply a setting I have to change somewhere?
