No sounds for Apple Mail on my MacBook

On my MacBook Pro (2019), there are no incoming sound for new mail or outgoing sound for sent mail. How do I fix that? Thanks

Also, the badge icon doesn't work. Began in Catalina and continues in Big Sur. What gives?

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thanks for the suggestion. I attempted to reach Support through Chat, but I don't have the patience to wait for someone, not knowing how long it might be until someone at Support connects with me.

The problems of no Mail badge icon when Mail is closed, and no sound when I get new mail existed in Catalina and continues in Big Sur. I reloaded Big Sur once to see if the problem was fixed, but no such luck.

The problem is annoying but not crippling.

Hi Marinite,

We understand you have some questions about Mail notifications on your Mac, and we'd like to help. To get started, can you let us know what you see for the Mail settings in System Preferences > Notifications > Mail ? The resource below contains some additional details about how to change them if necessary.

Change Notifications preferences on Mac

Also, what do you see in Mail > Preferences > General > New mail sound in the Mail app itself?

These details will help us better isolate the problem.

Have a great day!

In System Preferences > Notifications > Mail on my MacBook Pro, MY settings are Mail alert style: Alerts; Show notifications on lock screen: NOT checked; Show in Notification Center: NOT checked; Badge app icon: CHECKED; Show previews: always (default); and, Notification grouping: automatic.

THERE IS NO MAIL SETTING FOR SOUND.

In Mail > Preferences > General > New mail, these are the settings: Default email reader: (Apple) Mail; Check for new messages: Automatically; New messages sound: New Messages Sound. The box for 'Play sounds for other mail actions' is NOT checked.

Dock unread count: All Mailboxes; New message notifications: All Mailboxes; Downloads folder: Downloads; Remove unedited downloads: After Message is Deleted.

Thanks for your help.
