Extra Disk Images after OS X reinstall

Hello all,

I just installed a new SSD and reinstalled Catalina from Time Machine. I still have an 'Update' disk image which seems to be from a cancelled update installation as well as 'Macintosh HD' and 'Macintosh HD - Data'. Which of these is necessary and which can be safely deleted?

Deleting Disk Images on 2015 MacBook Pro running Catalina I recently reformatted my hard drive on my 2015 MacBook Pro after installing Catalina, and I started to run into speed and connectivity issues that I could not resolve and reformatted again. I noticed that there were 2 now disc images: the disk name, and then the disk name with "- data" after it. I went back in going through disc utility and discovered that there was now a third disc image now with the disc name followed by "- data - data" How do I remove or delete these secondary images? How to get rid of the Macintosh HD - Data disk image I want to donate my MacBook Air 2013 and before doing so, I of course wanted to delete everything. I restarted in Safe mode, launched Disk Utilities, erased both the "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD - Date" drives, quit Disk Utilities and rebooted. After about an hour, Mac OSX Catalina was installed and everything is fine. But now everytime I restart, I get three disk images: "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD - Date" and "Update". No matter how often I eject the last two, they keep coming back. I understand that the Data disk is essential, but is there a way to hide those icons so as not to confuse the next user, who may be a neophyte when it comes to the Mac? Thanks. P.S.: In case it matters, I was running Big Sur before I deleted the entire content of the whole hard drive. Daniel

Disk1s5 and Update after macOS downgrade Disk1s5 I recently downgraded to macOS Catalina since it's faster. But after the downgrade this disk called "disk1s5" showed up in disk utility. If I try to mount it, this error shows up: Update Disk Also, there is another disk called "Update" It's mounted. It also has files. Anyone know why they are there and if I can remove them?

Update would have come from a Big Sur install. It can be removed.

Macintosh HD is the OS.

Macintosh HD - Data is your data.
