iPhone 12 mini overheating

Over the last few weeks my iPhone 12 mini will get really hot to the touch on the left/non camera side.

• I’m not charging it at the time.
• The phone is a few months old so it’s not indexing.
• Sometimes closing all of my background apps helps, sometimes it gets hot with just safari open.

Has anything changed in the last month? Have other users been experiencing this?
