Trying to use my iPad mini 4th as a second screen with my early 2015 macBook Pro. Just upgraded to Big Sur and I see the Sidecar icon, but don't have the preferences in System. Error message below

I'm fairly certain Apple can't change a 4th generation iPad into a 5th generation or later iPad. It's an iPad hardware issue.
Looks like it's not compatible even thought Big Sur is compatible with the computer. How dumb. Apple should fix this.
