FLAC files skip when being played with EarPods

When I play FLAC files through the iOS Files app with my Lightning EarPods plugged in, they skip parts of the music, and I have to convert them into CAF files, otherwise they won’t stop skipping, which is very annoying...

Has this happened to anyone and does someone know how to fix it? I’m running iOS 14.3 on an iPhone 7 Plus

Hi Limoto,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand FLAC audio files are skipping when you are playing them from within the Files app on your iPhone. This is most likely network related, because these songs are being streamed from iCloud not played directly from your device. The recommended solution would be to import these songs to the Music app or iTunes app on your computer, then sync them to your iPhone.

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer

If you would prefer to continue playing music using the Files app, you'll want to try utilizing a different Wi-Fi network to test for the same behavior. Following the additional steps linked below, would also be a good idea.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network

Cheers!

Hi,

thanks a lot for your reply; but even though the FLAC files are being played within the Files app, they are stored locally; in the “On My iPhone” folder, so I don’t think it’s a network problem. (And even if they weren’t stored locally, I have a very fast network service that has very fast download speeds)

Also, this only occurs when using the Lightning headphones, and not when playing the files using the phone’s speakers.

And, if I transfer the files to my phone using the Music app, wouldn’t the computer convert them into another format and lose audio quality?

Thanks again for your help!

I’d like to second this - the same skipping issue occurs every time I play FLAC audio files from the Files app on both my iPhone 8 Plus (currently on iOS 14.4, though the issue has always occurred from iOS 13 through now) and my iPad Air 3 (iPad OS 14.4, though once again, the issue has existed since iPad OS 13 when I got it). In my case, the skipping occurs on both devices’ speakers and when using my Air Pods Pro. It isn’t an issue with streaming from the cloud, since these files are locally stored on both my iPhone and iPad respectively. If somehow an update could be made to the Files app to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
