Apple TV plus 1 year subscription free

So recently I took my MacBook Air in for repair and ended up resetting the whole system and so instead of setting it up with a back up I just set it up as a new MacBook Air. Now Apple TV plus is offering me a year free subscription and I’m hesitant to take it because technically I don’t really qualify based on what I’ve read. Should I ignore it? If I take it will I be penalized at any point? I’m just so thrown off by this.

I did not buy a new device. This was a device I bought years ago. I have not bought a qualifying device since September. I just simply took in my old device for repair.

Based on what you described, I think you received that message erroneously. But even if you follow up on that and try to redeem it, then at some step after that, I would expect the check for eligibility to stop the intended redeeming process. There would be a check on the first registration of the device, which would be more than 3 months ago.

It is not a one click process, there are more steps, questions, and instructions. You can try to claim any offer that is made to you. The verification that goes with it, is the concern of the organization that makes the offer. Just expect that at some point in the redeeming process, it may happen that the offer gets retracted/changed, and you will just get the regular 7 day trial, or the one month Apple One trial, or no trial at all if you had previously subscribed. Be mindful of exactly what you agree to at each step. But if you somehow get to “Enjoy 1 Year Free” and the confirmation without any hurdles, then good for you, and enjoy it.
