No need to get aggravated. If you don't understand the question, please do not respond. You are under NO obligation to respond to me. I'm somewhat puzzled that you don't see the benefit of naming desktops to reflect what you're doing in each of them. This is like having a house and labeling rooms: room1, room2, room3, instead of kitchen, master bedroom, guest bathroom, garage, etc... but if you're happy with generic name, it's your business. I'm not. Have a good day!

On the surface it is hard to understand what you are asking here, "virtual" Desktop.

What, where and why...would you want to rename a Desktop ?

Are you asking about from the Mission Control +

It has never been an option to rename these Desktops, however you can drag and drop these in any order (re-numbered accordingly) if this gets at your issue...?

Hard to believe a simple capability like this isn't implemented. Even Windows 10 has it.

Thanks xuscbs, I get it now—it's like putting your name on your lunchbox, backpack, pencil box, mittens, etc... so you know they are yours.

I have something constructive to say with your permission—

Submit your disbelief to Apple Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback if this is a feature you'd like to see; and you can always go back to Windows 10.

Hi Xuscbs,

Even though Apple don't seem to include re-naming desktops yet, you may find some of the Big Sur User Guide tips helpful in working with Desktop 1, 2, 3, etc.:

Work in multiple spaces on Mac:

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh14112/11.0/mac/11.0

Change Mission Control preferences on Mac:

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mchlp2345/11.0/mac/11.0

For myself, I find it helpful to have a very different background on each desktop space, and to group "like" applications.

Cheers!

I made an app, CurrentKey Stats, that's in the App Store that gives Spaces persistent names. It also tracks how you spend time across Spaces and your Apps, and gives you a quick way to jump directly between your Spaces.

The app is free to download, here is the direct App Store link. It's homepage is CurrentKey.com.

I launched the app in May 2019, have updated it over a dozen times, and plan to support it as long as Apple lets me. Because macOS APIs are limited, the names stay in the app/menubar and don't show up in Mission Control. But they are persistent.
