Problem texting in text field

I’m using a mini 12 iPhone. Texting was working perfectly with me able to send and receive texts in a vertical form. Suddenly the texts became long and skinny and I am not able to type in the text field. Help

Force closed the app you were using. How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, then restart the iPhone and start again.
