Purgeable?

Posted on a previous discussion as an answer - "According to the information in Get detailed information about a disk in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support, purgeable space is space that macOS can free up as necessary, but you cannot delete it yourself. " This is counterintuitive. Why would we be given information that we cannot act upon? For example, I have 29GB of "purgeable" data. What am I to do with that information? If I can claim it, great. If not, why mention it as purgeable?

Hi jsoard,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some questions about Purgeable space on your Mac. We're happy to provide some information.

It sounds like you already understand what Purgeable space is. You are correct that you cannot manually remove it, and it will be freed up as needed by macOS. You can also find more about that here: Get detailed information about a disk in Disk Utility on Mac

We understand this is all information you've already known regarding purgeable space, and encourage you to leave feedback about this here: Product Feedback

Thanks.
