App might not be usable because of blocked system extension, but cannot allow it

Hello guys,

I have a new MacBook Pro with M1 chip and the newest Big Sur software. I wanted to use the MacBook for work, that is why I wanted to install our VPN client to use our network. We use Barracuda VPN. I already installed it on some other MacBooks, where it always worked. In the installation process it says that a system extension is blocked and that I have to allow it. But when I install the client and go to "System Preferences..." > "Security & Privary", in the "General" tab there should be the blocked extension with a button to allow it. It does not stand in there. With the other MacBooks I installed (all "older" variants), I did not have this problem and it was easily possible, to allow it.

Do you have any ideas, why this is like it is and are there maybe any other possibilities, where I can see blocked system extensions and allow them?

I really appreciate your help!

All stay safe and healthy,

Thanks, Tim :)

Thank you for your contribution! Also thought of that. But I also had an older Mac mini some days ago with the same problem. That was not on Big Sur Update. So at second thought I guessed it is not the software. If I find a solution that does only work on the Mac mini, I then can be sure that it is Big Sur or the M1 chip. But since there is no solution yet for the problem, I am going to try on.

To incompatibility with M1: After first trying to install it, the Mac asked me if I wanted to use Rosette for Intel Apps. Accepted that, so I was thinking that would not be the problem.

But, of course, I could be wrong.

configuration settings in >System Preference>Network preferences ...(?)

Do you need to add it to "Full Disk Access" first , you can use the +/- to add it in... (?)

>System Preference>Security & Privacy>General unlock the padlock

Hello Leroy,

thank you very much for your answer!

Unfortunately, yet that did not help. I tried to add the VPN client to Full Disk Access but it did not solve the problem.

If I try to connect, it says that opening the TAP device failed. It looks like, there is no such directory as where the client wants to connect. In the configuration of the client the default TAP device is at /dev/tun0, but that folder does not exist. Could that be a problem caused by the fact I cannot allow the extension or is it maybe a problem of the installer?
