FCP can capture DV/HDV directly as a general statement.
If iMovie is working there is most likely a Timecode problem on the tape.
Timecode must be contiguous.
You could stripe a tape or copy the tape to create the continuous Timecode.

Use iMovie or the QuickTime player to capture the material and then bring it into FCP.
I am thinking out load, so this could be nonsense !
With iMovie open and recognising your DV camcorder , launch FCP . Does FCP now recognise your DV camcorder ?
If so can you capture to FCP? You may have to leave iMovie open ???
No. All DV/HDV cameras that use the Firewire protocol are supported. The application is extremely picky about the media format when the process. There must be a correct timebase and timecode throughout the capture process.
Thanks for your reply! I have imported via iMovie and it works but would prefer to be able to do it directly with FCB. Could it be that the camera is not supported by the new FCB or that the program needs to be upgraded.
