I am trying to use a new cd/dvd reader for the first time. Last night I loaded a Blu-ray dvd. I accepted the disk and tried reading it and then ejected it. Is there something else I am supposed to be doing or does it not like Blue-ray?
What Jack said. You need a blue-ray disk drive.
Also while MacOS has software for a DVD player it does not include Blue-ray player software, so you will also need a 3rd blue-ray software player. Your choices tend to be 'very expensive' or 'very unreliable'.

Is your DVD drive designed for Blu-ray? Only Blu-ray marketed drives work for Blu-ray. I can look it up for you if you provide the model number.
