A pop-up occurred on my screen and said I needed to contact macOS support

A pop-up occurred on my screen and said I needed to contact macOS support at 1 (888) 393-0***1. I contacted them and he wanted $299 to set up an internet firewall. Scam????

100% scam.


Most websites that try to pull this off use scare tactics, such as playing a beeping noise, using caps lock, throwing large caution symbols and the like.


If you want to prevent this from happening in the future, clear out your web browser's cache (for Safari: Preferences -> Privacy -> Manage Website Data -> Remove All).
