Has anyone had Big Sur 11.2 open a Nikon Z6 II lossless compressed raw file?
Subject line says it all.
If Big Sur can only open uncompressed raw, Apple needn't have bothered. Who shoots uncompressed raw?
Disappointing, Apple.
iMac 27″, macOS 11.1

I see that the Nikon Z6 II (and Z7 II) camera just popped up on the supported Big Sur (11.2) camera raw listing. They weren't there this morning. There is no footnote associated with the camera entry.
I am running macOS 11.2, and though the Finder is not showing an icon image, Quick Look and Preview now display a Z6 II RAW image. According to ExifTool, the RAW image is Nikon NEF compressed.

Interesting. Neither is listed on my Intel Macs but they are on my M1 MBA.
Interesting indeed. Have you tried to open the same files on both architectures?
Interesting. I can open any of them. Big Sur 11.2.
Thanks. I can download and open the out-of-camera JPEG, but can't open the Nikon raw file which is also linked.
Looks like a whole heap of Nikon shooters will have to wait for Big Sur 11.2.1!
Ah well - I guess there are bigger issues at the moment!
All the best
Shane
You're welcome. Neither do I. I checked three of my Macs running Big Sur including an M1 MacBook Air.
The same raw image that opens on my Mi mini with Preview/Quick Look, behaves the same on my 2014 MBA with 11.2. No thumbnail image on either.
Yep, no thumbnails to be found anywhere.
Use the “softwareupdate” command line tool.
I used to own two Nikon Pro cameras and several expensive lenses, but now I am without any camera. Instead, I download sample RAW images from Digital Photography Review's review of various cameras including the Z6 II.
I used to do landscape photography on the west coast as an escape from a brain-eating corporate job. Even without covid, I had stopped flying long ago, and my interest in photography waned.
The image I tested above was confirmed to be a compressed RAW NEF.

I missed this post. The screen shot I posted was from a late 2015 5K iMac running Big Sur 11.2. I haven't checked my M1 MBA. I assume they will open.
Thanks VikingOSX.
Question: are you capturing your raws as lossless compressed or uncompressed?
Shane
Interesting - because I can't open Z6 II compressed, or as I have now tried, uncompressed raw on my iMac. I even re-booted, just to be sure.
Weird.
Stay safe.
Shane
Ok. That's weird.
I have no idea where to go on this.
Thanks.
So would Compression = 0 if it was uncompressed?
Just to add, why not Nikon Z6 II & Z7 II? Apple is weird sometimes.

Not me. I'm jealous. :)
Although I can open the files.
