Deleting messages on Macbook Air

How can I quickly delete multiple messages on my MacBook Air? Deleting one at a time is tedious. Thanks.

Thanks for the response--I had seen that previously online. My problem was with deleting several messages at a time to "clear things out". For some reason, my MacBook air does not allow me to "select all" or to highlight the first message, hold down the shift key, then hit the last message, and then delete. Why--I do not know. Maybe someone out there has encountered the same thing and has a solution. Thanks again.
