reset password failed

just got a new iMac. I transferred everything over via Time Machine. Was setting up this morning, had to reset after a software install but now it doesn't recognize my password. I tried to reset using my Apple ID but get a "Reset Password Failed" screen after I reset it. Help!

The most simple and reliable method to reset your Admin password is to:

Restart in Recovery Partition (hold down Command + R when restarting the computer)
Open Terminal app
Type resetpassword
Follow all on-screen prompts
