I have an older Apple watch that my husband never used. I'm trying to reset it so I can pair with my phone. I've tried the guidance on apple.com to hold both side buttons, wait till the Apple shows, then release. Nothing happens. Of note: the apple is kind of shaded...does that mean something? Doesn't seem fully lit up.

You first have to remove the watch from it's original icloud account in order to remove the activation lock.
Unfortunately he never used it and doesn't know any info about it. Nothing has been showing up on the screen at all other than a shaded apple.
