Temporarily blocking numbers on macbook

I have had trouble getting my macbook to block numbers I have also blocked on my iphone. The texts will still come through on imessage app on my macbook. I have tried to follow the instructions for going into settings and manually blocking numbers from my macbook, however it does not allow me to select peoples names to block. What can I do?
