EMERGENCY!!!!

2011 imac won't load past the apple screen. I tried so many different suggestions. Is there any way to collect data from it that I need for business, and also erase afterwords for recycling purposes? I plan to make a genius bar appointment, but was wondering if it was possible to do myself.

Thanks,

B

After all the procedures listed by Jack-19, if it doesn't work and if you have access to another Mac, try installing in and external drive a copy of High Sierra (the latest one supported by your iMac) and then plug it to your Mac and boot holding Option, choose the external disk to load HS.

Once in, check if it recognizes the internal drive so you can copy your data and also factory reset the iMac and prepare it to be sold or recycled.
