I have an iMac about 14 months old. Using OS Big Sur Version 11.2 and Final Cut Pro. The video files are choppy and I get an error saying video frame was dropped during playback. "Issues that may affect playback include available memory, dish speed, graphics performance and processor performance." I have no idea what to do.
This is usually a drive problem. What drive has the media? How is it connected and formatted? What are complete media specifications? What are you doing in the project? Compositing, effects, multicam? You might need to create proxy files.
What's your hard drive? If the video is complete don't worry about the dropped frames on playback. Just export the movie and make sure it plays correctly.
After you export open the Background Task HUD Cmd-9 to see what’s happening.
What didn’t work? Exporting? What happened?
The media is on my hard drive. I can move it to an external hard drive but the video is complete so I don’t want to lose all the editing This is about a 10 minute video with clips I shot with my iphone and imported from Photos. There are some still images and a sound track. I tried to create proxy files but I get an error message that they are missing

Regarding the File never materialising:
Have you given FCP Disc Access?
If your computer quits there may be some type of hardware issue.
Can you tell us exactly what happens during a computer quit?

I will try that although it did not work a few weeks ago. (I have been struggling with this for awhile).
