BBC iPlayer downloads do not play using Apple TV

For some time now my downloads from BBC iPlayer on my iPad nor iPhone will not play on my tv via Apple TV. I can download to my iMac and play them on the TV that way. But it is not very convenient, the iMac is in a different room and the feature that automatically playing the next episode does not work on the iMac downloads.

The beauty of the downloads on my iPad and iPhone is that it was the ideal way to watch the programmes. All my hardware always has the latest version available.

apps can choose to block airplay if the developer so choose, netflix does that Netflix confirms it killed AirPlay support, won’t let you beam shows to Apple TVs anymore - The Verge

maybe bbc does it too, if it's an appletv hd or appletv 4k you maybe able to find their iplayer as an app in the app store on the appletv

I have just checked on the apple tv and there is no iPlayer app. It appears to be the connection between the iPhone and iPad. When I go to play then select airplay Apple TV it goes as if to start and then jumps to an apple screen, each time I select play it goes off the Apple screen as if were to play and then returns to the original screen. For the last seven years it has worked just fine. So one of the updates must have removed the ability to play to Apple TV.

Thanks for replying. I will have to keep searching.
