IPhone hacking or suspicious activity

Many times over the last several years I noticed that when I wake up in the morning and check my phone it is on a different screen than it was when I last used it at night.

i noticed this first with my iPhone 5 - often I would reach for it in the morning and after entering my passcode I saw it was sometimes deep in the folders of my gmail.

It started to happen more frequently but always only at night. One time it was frozen on the same screen it had somehow got on tot in the night so I had to reset it. It happens less on new phones as I had a few replacements/ upgrades over the years but a year or so in it always happens. This morning it’s happened to my 12 pro max. Even though for 3 years now I switch off WiFi and sleep with plane mode on to minimize it’s night activity. An ex Apple employee told me she switches her phone off completely every night. I just remembered that she had mentioned this and I wished I’d asked why when it does take a while to switch on again and if you’re rushing in the morning for work etc it’s just one extra thing to wait for especially when we are keen to read news etc first thing. So a few times I’ve switched it off completely and then I’ve never had that particular problem.

I thought iPhones were not hackable easily.

Also find it hard to imagine why all my phones eventually behave this way.

can anyone shed any light on why this might happen? As mentioned it is usually my email and the page it’s on is usually my most confidential email account. ( I have 3 email accounts - social/ work/ confidential ( accounts information etc). However it’s always my email and not safari etc.,

id be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this or any unusual activity and does it happen in the night?

thanks

iOS / iPadOS devices cannot be hacked or infected with Virus / Malware / Spyware if it is updated to latest iOS/iPadOS, unless you have intentionally downloaded spurious softwares or unauthorized apps directly from the internet and installed on your device or/and have Jail Broken.

It (Hacking) also depends on how careful are you in sharing sensitive and valuable information pertaining to your iPhone such as Passcode, Password etc with your friends and family members.

Be careful when sharing the device's sensitive and valuable information with friends and family members.

Thumb Rules:

  1. Enable  Guided Access before handing over an iPhone to kids
  2. Don't share Apple IDs
  3. Don't Jail Break
  4. Don't share sensitive information pertaining to your device and payment methods
  5. Beware of Phishing

Thanks Sravan.

maybe back when I had the 5s I was unaware of 3rd party apps but I have only ever downloaded my apps from the Apple store. And I’m aware to never share such info via messages to others ( rarely have need to). I keep logs of info for myself but this is never emailed to anyone.

when I set up this 4 month new iPhone 12 Pro Max I noticed the set up had changed and it now sometimes asks for me to enter my passcode ( for the phone) at a different stage during set up than previously. That’s the main new security change I have had to my phone / iOS but obviously that’s not something in my control. I used to be able to change my passcode with WiFi off. With the latest iOS you need to let cloud know what the new passcode is. In my view the hardware and software security is now more overlapped. For the user this creates less privacy / security. I want to be able to control my security access to my phone without needing to share it with cloud/ across WiFi. And yet Apple has created this after 13 years of tweaking and development.

We all know how our control over our own privacy / data is getting take away as time and tech go on.

For example with regards to cameras on iPhones - if I wanted to put a privacy hardware attachment ( eg lens cover) on previous phones this was possible. Now the layout and design has made that almost impossible. I don’t think that is just chance/ better design because everyone agrees that the née camera means the phone can’t lay flat on surfaces.

I do believe that in the absence of any explanation for this strange activity on my phone the only possible source of the issue is something to do with the iOS software. What else can it possibly be? Anyhow this is the reason for posting here. Maybe there is something else...

You must always enter your passcode to unlock your iPhone under the following conditions:

  • You turn on or restart your iPhone.
  • You haven’t unlocked your iPhone for more than 48 hours.
  • You haven’t unlocked your iPhone with the passcode in the last 6.5 days, and you haven’t unlocked it with Face ID or Touch ID in the last 4 hours.
  • Your iPhone receives a remote lock command.
  • There are five unsuccessful attempts to unlock your iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID.
  • An attempt to use Emergency SOS is initiated (see Make emergency calls on iPhone).
  • An attempt to view your Medical ID is initiated (see Create and share your Medical ID in Health on iPhone).

Probably you are referring to Screen Time Passcode and not Lock Screen Passcode.

Everything that you need to know on Lock Screen Passcode. (This is not stored anywhere in the iCloud) --> Set a passcode on iPhone - Apple Support

No I’m referring to Lock Screen passcode- do you use an iPhone 12? It is not the screen time that is separate I am talking about access to my phones full functionality being restricted by Apple unless I share over WiFi / data roaming my private and secure passcode. This never used to be the case- I could change my passcode offline and only I would have this code. My phone would not ask me to renter this for iCloud to work. That is what I mean by my personal privacy and security being eroded through these new features.

So I would like to ask again if anyone else has experienced unusual activity in their phone after leaving it on in the night and waking up to enter the passcode and see for eg. It is on a different screen - in my case it is deep inside one of the folders of my private email - how does this happen? My phone is on a table not anywhere near me in the night
