Try unmounting it, then physically turn off the LaCie power for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in and then turn it on to see if mounts and Finder & Disk Utility "see" it. If neither do, reset the NVRAM as suggested earlier.
If you have been using Time Machine on another EHD then you can likey use your Time Machine backup to recover the data. However, if we have more informaiton such as what the issue is that the LaCie is having then we can assist.
You can start by doing each of the following:
If none of these work and the LaCie will not mount so you can get your data then the data is likely lost. This is why it is important to have a backup system and wise to have redundant backups.
You can take the LaCie to a data recovery service however expect the cost to be many thousands of $ to get some of the data back.
Good luck.
I would like to add, how is the LaCie formatted? You can see the format by launching disk utility and selecting the drive in the list. There have been other posts that external drives failed to mount after upgrading to Big Sur. Make sure you have updated software from LaCie.
I hope this helps.

Thanks all. Managed to transfer the deleted files from an older version of Time Machine, though the way I did it has meant alot of reorganising of the files - but at least they are there.
I then did a NVRAM boot just to deal with any underlying problems that may be there.
Thanks. The LaCie showed up in the disk utility but greyed out as it was mounted. Am currently just doing a drag and drop from an older backup on the hard drive to my downloads folder and will see if that works
Resetting the NVRAM is extremely easy, please click the link for instructions. Before objecting to doing the NVRAM reset, please read how to do it and then decide if it is over your head. For most folks it is not over their heads but you need to know what it is before judging.
if it doesn't work I'll try updating the software of LaCie and then go back to disk utility and see if that then works
I'm not very techy so NVRAM sounds complex to me. Don't know what it is?
Thanks. I'll try that if my current action doesn't work. It's currently 'preparing to copy' and taking a while
