How do I re-configure my Mini Mac to have 1 or 2TB of storage?

I have a just bought a new (space grey Model A1993) Mini Mac on the advice of a sales person that it had enough storage to upgrade from my older model Mini Mac:

3.0GHz Intel Core i5 6-Core Processor with Intel UHD Graphics 630

512GB storage

  • PCIe-based SSD
  • Configurable to:
    • 1TB or 2TB SSD

Upon trying to migrate my photos/videos to this current model Mini Mac from an old 2012 Mini Mac - it has told me I don't have enough space.

How do I configure this new machine to be a preferably 2TB SSD device...

Thanks!

"Configurable to: 1TB or 2TB SSD" means that, when buying a new Mac, you can choose to configure your new Mac with more storage, for an additional $x00 dollars. It does not mean that you can configure it after the fact.

I can understand how you could interpret it that way, but if 512GB isn't enough storage, you have 2 options: 1) return it, if still in the return window, and buy a new Mac Mini with more storage, or 2) Purchase an external hard drive that has more storage. Option 2 is likely the less expensive option of the two, but it will involve plugging in an extra "box" rather than everything tucked inside the tiny Mac Mini body.

I've not personally used these, but I keep seeing Samsung T5 and T7 being mentioned and highly reviewed in these discussions. You can choose the amount of storage you need: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=samsung+external+ssd+for+mac

Good luck.
