Double lightning splitter don't work with my iPhone

I just purchased an iPhone XR for my daughter. She has lightning headphones and of course a lightning charger. I purchased a double lightning splitter to make it possible for her to listen to music and charge her phone at the same time. Actually, I have purchased two of them, and neither of them works. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem?
