Either use no sound for messages or mute your iPhone. Also, provide Apple feedback on this.

If this has disappeared, then you can recommend to Apple that they include this spec in their iPhone.  Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what suits their customers' needs and wants in versions to come.

2. Select: "Feature Request" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Proceed from there as necessary.

That’s what Do Not Disturb is for. Settings>Do Not Disturb. Set up a schedule.

Considering not everyone wants their calls and messages silenced as a default, Apple has made the option of using Do Not Disturb available, AND provides the ability to set a schedule for it to automatically turn on and off at specific times. While you will need to inconvenience yourself to turn it on manually the first time, once a schedule is set Do Not Disturb will automatically turn on and off at the designated times, without you having to be annoyed at a few screen taps.
