Superdrive compatibility with Catalina?

After updating my MacBook Air to Catalina, my Superdrive no longer recognizes CDs. Is anyone else having this issue, and does anyone have a solution?

Hi c0mpost,

We understand your SuperDrive no longer works. We're happy to help.

If the SuperDrive is no longer able to recognize or read discs, here's some general steps you can try: Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer

You can also try starting the computer in safe mode to see if the SuperDrive is able to work when started that way.

Start up your Mac in safe mode

We'd also recommend testing it in another user account to help determine if the problem is hardware based, or if its software related to a specific account. If you do not have any other user accounts on the computer, you can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and turn the Guest User option on. Then to switch to that account, just go to  > Log Out, then log in to the Guest User account. Once in there, see if the SuperDrive works or has the same issue.

If you continue to have problems with the SuperDrive, you'd want to contact Apple Support directly for assistance: Get Support

We hope this helps. Take care!
