Headphone mic not been picked up as input option

Hello,

Recently I tried to use my new HyperX Cloud Stinger headphones on my mid-2012 macbook pro. The output works just fine, I am able to listen to music, videos, etc. The problem I encountered was I am unable to use the microphone that is attached to the headset. The mac does not even recognize it as an option in the sound settings. The only microphone that appears is the built-in keyboard mic. But I am unable to use the microphone on the actual headset.

Is there a reason? Possible a solution?
