Is my laptop broken for good - water damage

Hi everyone, today I spilled a pretty large cups worth of water on my new laptop. I turned it off within a few minutes and put it upside down as everyone says to do.

I checked on it a few hours later and found it had turned itself on. I know everyone says do not turn it on for at least a day or 2 and yet my computer had turned on by itself. When it was on i noticed the caps lock was stuck on and i couldn’t log in, as well as a water stain on the screen. more annoyingly, now it won’t stay off..

Ive read lots of success stories where people spilled on their computer and after a few days keeping it off, like magic they work again. i am worried since mine turned on by itself, it caused further damage and won’t come back from this.

has anyone experienced a similar situation? what did you do? should i take it into the apple store asap or wait to see if it comes back?

If you have AppleCare+, then the repair cost will be lowered. If you don't have AppleCare+, then you are better off buying a new computer since you have a damaged Display and Keyboard (and possibly a damaged Logic Board).

AppleCare Products - Mac - Apple

FYI, pressing any key now turns on the 2018+ Apple laptops. It is a very annoying feature that unfortunately cannot be disabled.

I'm also torn on the issue of turning an Apple laptop upside down because the keyboard actually has a mylar covering beneath it that can prevent some liquid from hitting the Logic Board. Tilting the laptop causes the liquid to run to a side/edge where it can leak past the edge of the mylar and onto the Logic Board. For such a substantial liquid spill it may not make a difference, but for a minor spill it might make a difference.
