Password box doesn't display after screen turning off

this happened 5 times in a row. I was on my iMac then the screen goes black then I try clicking on the password box but it disappeared! I can enter my password without the box then it goes back on again but it doesn't work sometimes it didn't work so I had to restart my mac.This is so annoying! please someone solve this prob!
