Hey Siri stopped responding when cover closed in iOS 14.3 (continues in 14.4)

I've had my iPad Air 4 (Wifi) since early January with a cover that I purchased separately.

Hey Siri always responded with cover closed until about a week or so before iOS 14.4 came out.

What I've tried so far,

checked all Siri settings including the setting in accessibility
reset all network settings
erased device and set up as new
spoke with Apple Support who had me erase it again

I've had iOS 14.4 since the day after release but hey Siri still doesn't respond when the cover is closed.

Other than when the cover is closed, Hey Siri responds normally. Thanks

*I had to put iPad Air 3 Wifi as my device because my device isn't listed in the dropdown

I'm using iPad Air 4 Wifi

I have this case on the iPad Air 4 and ‘’hey Siri’’ worked on it for the first weeks when closed also.

I’m got this identical model case on iPad Pro 3 and there’s no problem with ‘Hey Siri" when

close. I read that magnets on certain smart case don’t allow hey Siri when closed. Confusing since I have 3 iPads WiFi only (Air 2, Air 4, Pro 3) and all have magnetic closure. Essentially hey Siri works on 2 iPads with magnetic closures but stopped on Air 4.
