Get rid of an open app (Beats Updater) in Big Sur

I made the mistake of downloading the Beats Updater to update the firmware on a pair of headphones, only to discover that the app doesn't do anything anymore, and the update is actually done over the web. But I discovered that too late. Now the app is in my Apps folder and I can't delete it. I get a system message that I can't drag it to the trash because it's "open." I try to force quit, but it's not shown in the list of apps available to be forced. I reboot, touch nothing, and try to delete it--same thing: it's "open"but not available to the Force Quit. How -- short of resorting to Time Machine to restore every thing else in the app folder -- do I get rid of this thing?
