Apple 27" LED Cinema Display not working with Mac Mini M1 HDMI connector

Hello,

Just bought a Mac Mini M1 and I cannot get my 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (not Thunderbolt) to work with it on the native HDMI port using an HDMI to Mini Displayport adapter (I made sure it was not an HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter) I just purchased (see below for exact model).

When I plug the adapter directly into the Mac Mini's HDMI port, it recognizes the display correctly but the screen is black and does not show any image. I am using Apple remote desktop while debugging this issue so I can see what the system is seeing. If I then plug the HDMI adapter into Apple's USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter, it also does not work.

But if I plug the HDMI cable into my Insignia 7-Port Type-C Hub the screen works perfectly fine. This is very baffling. I don't want to do Mini DisplayPort to HDMI to an adapter to USB c.

I want to use the native HDMI port directly and avoid any other adapters altogether. When I plug in my Sony A9 4k TV directly into the Mac Mini, it works great. Why would an old but very reliable Apple monitor not work directly and need a dongle from a 3rd party via USBC??? It's not 4k and well within the specs of what that native port can drive.

This adapter from Apple does not work: (model A2119, HDMI 2.0)

This adapter from Insignia works (HDMI 1.4)

This is the HDMI to mini display port adapter I purchased (HDMI 1.4)

Can't help you with diagnosing the issue as i've had my fair share of trouble with adapters that should have been working on paper but weren't, but i am using these two with my Apple LED and they work fine...

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I am also able to connect the monitor using the DisplayPort connector on my Caldigit USB C hub. So DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort with the Apple LED Cinema works great. But I really want to go HDMI direct so I don't chew up USBC ports and use multiple dongles.

If someone at Apple could respond, that would be great. Why does an Apple product work with another Apple product when using a 3rd party adapter but not when using Apple adapters or a direct connection? I love my Apple cinema display and I don't need a new monitor.
