Big Sur tried to install without checking if my MacBook Pro had enough space - and it does not. Now it is stuck in a loop of trying to install and I cannot access it to remove any files to free-up space. What can I do?

If you are stuck you can force qui the Mac by holding the power button /Touch ID for ~6-10 sec.
Reboot into SafeBoot mode—and from here do some house cleaning to free up storage.

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.
Login and clear storage . Reboot as normal caches get rebuilt.
In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.
