I like the snappiness of the Air and was hoping to have better experience with this device. At this point, it seems it is some sort of hardware issue. The base MacBook Air can use the LG monitor, OWC hub and external drives, with no problem or hiccups. I'm going to return the unit.

i haven't had this issue for at least a month now. i have shut the machine down on weekends to save power.

SIP is still disabled (csrutil status System Integrity Protection status: disabled), along with bputil flags (this seemed to be preserved with the 11.6 update, checking with bputil -d)

I'm also experiencing crashes (with the above error message) and slowdowns, and the only constant I can find is that they happen when my external HDs are connected -- which they are constantly, since I use them for Time Machine and daily backups.

Disconnecting my hard drives full time isn't really an option unless I want to work without backups.

Hi folks, just reading this thread now. I swapped out my USB cable a few days ago and immediately started having this issue. The cable is a Type-C to Type-C and it's for my keyboard. I also have two enclosures for external drives but I do not think that is the cause. The recent update seems to have also made it much worse.

I was also afraid it might be a HW fault - But reinstallation of OS X onto a new volume fixed it for me.

It was crashing every 1-2 days, but since reinstallation I haven't seen a crash in 2.5 months of heavy use.

(Of course, it could still be a HW issue that I somehow haven't managed to trigger in 2.5 months, but it seems rather unlikely).

I had the same problem with an external monitor plugged in via USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable. There were pixel artifacts (blue and pink) on the screen and after a second my Macbook Air M1 16GB rebooted.

14" MBP M1 Max:

No external Devices. Chrashes several times a day.

(While working, while in SleepMode....)

New Installation, Service-Mode, Another user... nothing helpes.

I just had this happen and I have 1tb samsung T7 connected.

I just had this "SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)" error on an M1 Mac Mini with the latest Big Sur 11.2.3 (20D91) and I too had a Western Digital drive attached, mid-copying something.

Trade it for a 2018 mini. Those are literally perfect and way better. No hardware issues like this. You'll forget all about the performance difference when your computer literally never crashes.

This just occurred while updating to latest BS OS update. I'm guessing but I suspect it may have something to do with the external hard drives. I keep two active one for tTimeMachine Backups and the other where I keep all active files. The third (an older drive) is connected for archiving old files. I had the third active when this happened.
